I was at the grocery shop the other day. It was pretty early, so I was in a bit of a grumpy mood. And one thing happened to me that completely changed my mood for the rest of the day. So, when I was leaving with shopping bags a cashier lady said to me “Have a nice day”. Honestly, I couldn’t remember when was the last time somebody said those words to me. But I thanked her and wished her the same.
I guess saying something that mundane as “have a nice day” is not a big commitment. But we tend to forget that. I would even go further and blame that on Polish culture. We’re living in a pretty grey-ish society. We like being blue and now with a rainy season is even worse. Those words are holding some mysterious power which can brighten you up. I can’t put a finger on it but this moment in store motivated me to say those words more frequently.
We are gloomy people, that's a fact! And this custom of saying 'Have a nice day' to your customers came from the US. Hopefully, it can bring the famous American optimism with it.
