Adele vs TikTok

I’ve recently come across an interview with Adele in which she was promoting her new album “30”. And she said something that I found really intriguing: “If everyone is making music for the TikTok, who’s making the music for my generation?”  So basically, for the last 2 years music from TikTok has taken over the music industry like no other app. Now it’s not necessarily the music which blew up on TikTok is trending, but musicians put out new music which is meant to be “TikTok friendly” (energetic with high tempo and danceability) And it’s working because most of these songs you can hear on radio, or they are number 1 on the charts. In my opinion, most of them are generic and shallow but there are some gems. Self-made singers who with the help of TikTok were able to show off their music. Either way, I can still understand why Adele said what she said, and I think it’s good that she spoke about it.

Staying at home

During the weekend, I received a message about my class going on a one week “break” because of a covid case among my peers. It means remote school for 5 days and mostly spending time at home.  Nobody at my class expected this to happen, mainly because of the fact that we’re all vaccinated. Of course, I’m wishing all the best to a person who is sick. But honestly, no matter how bad it will sound, I was waiting to go on this break. Not even for a particular reason, but just to have a couple of days to gain more motivation. My initial reaction was a wave of relief. And in some unexplanatory way, I kind of missed having school at home. Especially when it’s so cold and gloomy outside. Also, the whole situation made me realise how I longed for online classes, even though they are not necessarily good for me as a student. What a bummer…

Television

I went to see a 30th anniversary of Polish musical “METRO”. The whole event was recorded by a television. Cameras throughout the performances were focused mainly on actors. And when the show ended, I was a part of the typical so called TV fakeness. The main director, told camera crew to rerecord our reaction to couple of songs (just to show the TV audience how much fun we had).  I’ve never witnessed something like that. But honestly, that moment deepened my bias to TV productions. Never trust what’s on TV right? I don’t know, it’s just was so unnecessary and forced in a way. I’m not a daily watcher of shows with live audience or in general TV, but so as many people of my age. The main reason why is because the ambiance of it feels so fake, and you can feel how hard they try to stay authentic.

Brands on Social Media

It’s not hard to notice that with the progress of social media, we’ve started using them in completely different ways, in comparison to the early beginnings. I would say at first, all platforms were for regular people. But nowadays every brand has an YT channel, an account on every social media and I don’t know in my opinion it’s unnecessary. I had so many eye roll moments when I scroll through Twitter and a Polish Netflix account tries so hard to be relatable.  I guess brands started to act like people and people started acting like brands. Influencers with brand deals which come with money are sometimes losing the humane part of their content. So, in that way companies are basing their content on relatability- cause some people like that. I mean I don’t care about what Netflix thinks about Pikachu, I want to know what movies are added next month. Examples:

have a nice day

I was at the grocery shop the other day. It was pretty early, so I was in a bit of a grumpy mood. And one thing happened to me that completely changed my mood for the rest of the day. So, when I was leaving with shopping bags a cashier lady said to me “Have a nice day”. Honestly, I couldn’t remember when was the last time somebody said those words to me. But I thanked her and wished her the same.  I guess saying something that mundane as “have a nice day” is not a big commitment. But we tend to forget that. I would even go further and blame that on Polish culture. We’re living in a pretty grey-ish society. We like being blue and now with a rainy season is even worse. Those words are holding some mysterious power which can brighten you up. I can’t put a finger on it but this moment in store motivated me to say those words more frequently.
