It has come to my attention, that a lot of first grade students are far more childish than we were in their position. The things that they sometimes do are questionable... For example, I once saw them playing Twister at the center of the main hall, or they are locking each other in the lockers. But not only their behavior is a sign of their immaturity, but also their looks. They seemed to look much younger than they are.
Well, to be fair, first grades don’t bother me that much. It’s just funny to look at them once in a while, and see in them that “child spirit”. They still have a mind of a kid from primary school, that innocence and freedom. I don’t know if mature part of me sees them as inferior, or I am just jealous of them. They don’t care that this is high school and big decisions will come to them sooner or later. I guess I was the same and still partially am.
You might be right in noticing that they are probably more childish than you were at their age. The lockdown slowed down the natural process of socialization and emotional maturity so they may indeed be far more immature than the previous intakes of students.
