I’ve read an article about influence of social media among teenagers who aim to live healthy lifestyles. The post mentioned study made by two universities in England. The purpose of the research was to better understand a usage of social media by teens and their impact on them. They recruited 84 participants, aged 13-18 to do so.
The results of the study weren’t shocking for me. I agree with the part about social media being the good source of information. It’s possible to find reliable apps, creators, accounts, videos etc. Following others journey could be motivational and helpful. However, in my opinion there is a lot more negative and damaging content online. Especially if you are very young and you don’t have a filter that says what’s fake and what’s real. How the writers said: bullying, body dysmorphia formed by photoshopped posts on Instagram, fake information are the stable part of the Internet. It’s hard to be healthy mentally and physically while being online.
Is there an alternative though? We can't cancel the Internet because our lives are happening there. It looks like we need to seriously rethink how its tools are used.
