Guiding our dreams

I’ve read an article in Independent by Adam Smith, which talked about studies done at Northwestern University in the USA. Thesis was about new discovery letting scientists break into people’s dreams and leaving hidden messages. The experiments were done during lucid dreaming with 36 participants across the US, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Personally, I found the article and mentioned scientific work fascinating. The idea of influencing our dreams seems futuristic to say at least. I agree with the author, these methods could be used to help people with sleep difficulties or nightmares. It will not only help fight insomnia problems but also other mental health issues. The method could be even healthier than melatonin pills, which could be very addictive after sometime. It was also funny to learn the way these questions manifested were different for different people. Some participants found questions coming through a radio, while others heard it like a narrator in a movie. Our brain is full of surprises.

  1. We have to realise, though, that like most scientific findings this one can be used to help people but also to manipulate them. It all depends on who is using the discoveries.

Brands on Social Media

It’s not hard to notice that with the progress of social media, we’ve started using them in completely different ways, in comparison to the early beginnings. I would say at first, all platforms were for regular people. But nowadays every brand has an YT channel, an account on every social media and I don’t know in my opinion it’s unnecessary. I had so many eye roll moments when I scroll through Twitter and a Polish Netflix account tries so hard to be relatable.  I guess brands started to act like people and people started acting like brands. Influencers with brand deals which come with money are sometimes losing the humane part of their content. So, in that way companies are basing their content on relatability- cause some people like that. I mean I don’t care about what Netflix thinks about Pikachu, I want to know what movies are added next month. Examples:

Is fake news a serious problem in the contemporary world?

I think that fake news is a serious problem. We hear them every single day. They can spread all over the world in a couple of hours or even minutes. In that short amount of time fake news is becoming viral and hard to overcome. That’s way they are so dangerous. Many people can’t tell what is fake and what is real. We don’t realize how great influence fake news has on us. They change our perspectives or force us to believe in their idea of true. We should fight against fake news not treat them blankly. Maybe then they will become less harmful.

What is sustainability?

In the 21 st century for many people it’s important to safe our planet from the dangerous consequences of global warming. One of the ways to ensure it is to change our way of living. That’s when it comes the idea of sustainability. 20 years ago, scientists from Sweden developed definition of sustainability with 4 basic principles: REDUCE -         “carbon footprint” -        dependance on heavy metals -        dependance on synthetic chemicals -        destruction of nature   By following these 4 rules you will make a major change. Moreover, sustainability most commonly means: maintaining the world we live in. By taking this lifestyle we are encourage to minimize use of Earth’s resources and reduce the damage of human and environmental interactions. Sustainable living aims to achieve an environmental balance. It expects us to return to the earth whatever we ...
