Quarantine - new normal

I realized for a while now, that word “quarantine” for us became just a casual word. It’s all over the social media, TV, newspaper, products etc. It gained so much more purpose over these 2 years. It became selling point in many products (ex. masks), it is used in many campaigns and now even in movies. It’s now harder to not see any “quarantine related thing” than ever before.

It is becoming more apparent that the old version of our world isn’t coming back. Most people just measure time before and after COVID. When before march 2020 was the last time, we used the word- quarantine? Probably in movies or textbooks. Personally, I didn’t even know how to spell quarantine correctly until COVID hit. The word earned so much more meaning, from the word that described something surreal and distant to something really close to people all over the world.

  1. Yea, it used to be a concept out of the Albert Camus' book but not any more.

Are Polish people polite and kind (compared to other Europeans)?

I honestly believe that Polish people are polite and kind. Despite deep rooted stereotypes. Poles in comparison to other Europeans are equally good. We are well mannered and sociable. But I think we have different approach to ourselves and to foreigners. We like to invite and welcome people to Poland. But when it comes to interactions between us, we sometimes act bitter. It’s just the matter of our culture. But I know from the experience that people from abroad usually say only nice things about Poles. We are known for our generosity and kindness. And it’s crucial to keep that opinion true.

Marilyn Monroe Painting By Andy Warhol For Sale

One of the most famous paintings of the even more famous artist Andy Warhol’s portrait of Marilyn Monroe (1962) will go on auction in May in New York. It is estimated for £150m and which will make Andy’s painting the most expensive 20th century artwork ever auctioned. In addition, the artist will become the greatest artist of the modern age therefore beating Pablo Picasso.  Personally, I consider Warhol as one of my favorite artists, so it’s hard for me not to be biased. I believe his artwork deserves to be valued highly. He was able to grasp a modern idea of art which can exist at the same time as the vastly-changing world of the 60’s, 70's and 80's. Also, people like to make little of his artwork into simple pop art, but he was a thinker, who lived way before his times. And the way that he changed the perception of the public about an artist in the culture is just remarkable. source:https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/apr/13/yours-for-200m-how-warhol-overtook-picass...

Selfie Culture

I’ve read an article which talked about selfie culture and the meaning behind them. The main topic was focus on the choice of the camera angle. And how we sometimes, not even aware, use different poses in the way, that we non-verbally communicate with others. When we choose to take selfies from above, left side, frontally etc. All of the mention angles are providing social and emotional signals to viewers.  Selfies have been around since the rise of social media. I was familiar with the general concept of selfie but I wasn’t aware of psychological meaning behind them. It was interesting to learn about the popularity of showing our left side (apparently this side is more emotionally expressive) but also, I really enjoyed the truest statement of all: we look better in our selfies, than in photos other people take of us. In my own believe I see selfies as a way of self-expression, it really tells something about a person, especially on social media. article: https://theconversati...
